Stazione Marittima di Salerno

Located on the public quay of Salerno’s harbour, the Stazione Marittima di Salerno by Zaha Hadid Architects reinforces the city’s connection with the sea. Conceived as a terminal for ferries and cruise passengers, it organizes movement between the waterfront, the city, and the embarking areas.

The building is defined by its roof: a low, fluid shell that curves over the terminal, catching the changing light of the harbour while protecting the interior from the Mediterranean sun. Inside, ramps, waiting areas, and circulation spaces flow into one continuous sequence.

Seen from the water, the terminal becomes part of the coastline — a concrete form held between the harbour, the city, and the hills of Salerno.
