Holmenkollen Ski Jump

Rising from the hills above Oslo, the Holmenkollen Ski Jump by Julien De Smedt Architects combines sports infrastructure with civic presence. Clad in fine stainless-steel mesh, the structure lifts 58 meters into the air, with a 69-meter cantilever that gives it a strikingly slender profile.

Holmenkollen is deeply tied to Norway’s skiing culture and national identity, and the new ski jump translates that legacy into a contemporary architectural form. Seen against the sky, its line reads almost like a drawing, opening views across Oslo and the fjord while giving the hill a renewed silhouette.

The project also extends beyond competition. Visitors can move through and around the structure, reaching viewing platforms that turn the ski jump into a place of outlook as well as performance, where sport, engineering, landscape, and public space meet.
