National Theatre Of Ghana
Taining Cheng and Xianghan Ye
"A SHIP FOR PERFORMANCE ART"
One of the most beautiful features of the National Theater is its unexpected hidden spaces and terraces reflecting light. Its striking monolithic volume features diverse performance art stages, exhibition halls and auditoriums.
Funded by the Chinese, it opened in 1992 and has become one of the major landmarks in the city of Accra. The architecture itself, although officially designed by Taining Cheng and Xianghan Ye, carries the cultural heritage of both countries, as both Ghanaian and Chinese experts were involved in the decision-making process.
