Quai des Salines by ANMA requalifies a formerly neglected riverside space along the Escaut in the historic centre of Tournai. Extending from the cathedral district toward the Pont des Trous, the project turns the quay from a simple passage along the water into a generous public promenade.
The design works with the existing character of the site: nineteenth-century façades, mature trees, the river edge, and the memory of the old salines. The quay is organized in three parallel bands: a paved street along the buildings, a wide pedestrian walk in blue stone beside the water, and a planted intermediate strip with wooden benches and resting alcoves.
Rather than imposing a new image, the project clarifies what was already there and creates places to walk, sit, look at the river, and experience the historic city from the quiet edge of the water.
