Halle Modulable de Calais

Located on the Place d’Armes in the historic centre of Calais, the Halle Modulable by TANK Architectes is conceived as a flexible covered public space. Its light, large-span structure gives the square a new horizontal presence, in dialogue with the vertical figure of the nearby watchtower.

The building is defined by its large accordion door, which opens like a folded theatre curtain. Depending on the event, the hall can be closed, partially opened, or fully connected to the square, revealing the activity inside and extending it into public space.

Designed for markets, fairs, concerts, performances, and civic gatherings, the hall works as an urban room for the city. Even when closed, glazed openings in the mobile façade keep a visual connection between the interior and the square.
