Julien Lanoo at Leica Gallery Through his images, the photographer casts an attentive eye on architecture, revealing its historical and social layers, as well as the visible and more subtle connections that unite nature, light, and material.
Building on stories, recollections and traditions, the two studios presented in Memoryscapes - the second exhibition in the series Architecture Connecting - delve into the past with both precise interventions and broad archaeological investigation. They seek to create new architectural solutions and narratives that can benefit the present and form a bridge to the future. The exhibition series ‘Architecture Connecting’ is supported by the philantropic association Realdania Architecture’s connections to concepts and mindsets known from anthropology, archaeology and geology are spotlighted in the exhibition with the two studios DnA_Design and Architecture (Beijing) and ATTA – Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects (Paris).
The Star Homes Project in Mtwara, Tanzania and accompanying research studies were exhibited by LABÒ Cultural Project during Milan Design Week (6–11 April 2025), hosted at Fondazione Rodolfo Ferrari, where it was framed within contemporary debates on experimental housing and spatial innovation.

Presented as part of Metamorphosis of Centre Pompidou, curated by Boris Hamzeian, this documentary series explores the living architecture of the Centre Pompidou in Paris at a pivotal moment in its history. As the institution prepares for a five-year closure dedicated to renovation and renewal, the series captures an intimate tranche de vie of the museum on the threshold of transformation. It reveals both the visible rhythm of its public life and the hidden choreography unfolding beneath its surfaces. The work traces the beginning of a new chapter for one of the world’s most emblematic cultural institutions: a transformation led by Moreau Kusunoki in association with Frida Escobedo Studio, with AIA leading the technical renovation.
Resulting from the investigative efforts of the Glass Culture in Architecture Research Center, part of the RADDAR office, the exhibition "Glass Pavilions: An Avant-Garde Typology" is an extension of the eponymous book—yet to be published. The exhibition design highlights and materializes, through diverse examples—period photographs, architectural projects, models, and physical pieces—16 of the 36 projects featured in the publication. Striving to encompass the various dimensions that make up the cultural history of glass in pavilion architecture, the exhibition is organized into three main themes, showcasing the diverse ways the experience is materialized: Universal Exhibitions, Cultural Institutions, and Experimental Laboratories, each prominently displayed on their respective extra-pavilion tables.

For Tatiana Bilbao Estudio, questions of how people live together are central to architecture and urban planning. The Mexican studio’s internationally acclaimed projects respond sensitively to local conditions, approaching sustainability with empathy and responsibility. Social engagement, collaboration, and multidisciplinary research form an essential part of the studio’s process, informing designs through collages and free-hand drawings. Conceived as a spatial collage, the exhibition presents an architecture attentive to both people and natural resources. Photographs by **Julien Lanoo** were interwoven throughout the exhibition, offering a visual encounter with the studio’s built work and quietly contributing to the atmosphere, rhythm, and narrative of the show. The Qaammat Pavilion designed by Konstantin Ikonoidis is exhibited during Venice Glass Week at “HOUSE OF GLASS: THE BRICK HOUSE” at the Palazzo Donà dalle Rose and at Castello Gallery under the theme THE ICE FURNACE.
Domestic Dawns at Madrid’s Museo ICO explored new approaches to collective housing across twenty-first-century Europe. Curated by Andrés Cánovas, Carmen Espegel and José María de Lapuerta, the exhibition presented 28 projects from ten countries. Seven furnished interiors were reconstructed at full scale, turning architectural research into an immersive domestic experience.

Curated by Pippo Ciorra, Elena Motisi, Elena Tinacci The anthropological change of the architectural profession from the twentieth-century stereotype of the charismatic grandmaster to the growing presence of women, collectives and studio couples. The exhibition Good News aspires to document how new figures are infusing new forces into contemporary architecture. In particular, concerning the Museum’s Collection and the aim of expanding it, the exhibition pays particular attention to studios’ work directed or co-chaired by female designers and those professional bodies that are more aware of the changes taking place integrating them into their design process. On display, among other things, are some of the names and stories that have had, or still have, a crucial impact: from Charlotte Perriand to the 1970s collectives, from Elizabeth Diller to “realised” young promises such as Frida Escobedo and much more. The exhibition also includes a series of video interviews with authors/authors that reconstruct the stories and theories that accompany this narrative.
Jean Nouvel’s first solo exhibition in China transformed the Power Station of Art into an immersive theatre of light and shadow. Rather than a conventional architecture exhibition, it presented a five-and-a-half-hour film featuring nearly 100 of his projects, alongside six art installations inspired by key buildings. Photographs by Julien Lanoo from the series Boulogne Billancourt were also part of the exhibition, contributing to its exploration of Nouvel’s architectural vision through image and emotion.
Materials are central to architectural practice and research. They carry stories of place, formation, and transformation, while inspiring new ways of inventing, reusing, and adapting across aesthetic, functional, and technical dimensions. **Variations** presents a series of prototypes and research fragments, organised by themes and projects, with photographs by **Julien Lanoo**. Each intervention tells its own silent story while creating a dialogue between material, light, proportion, and architectural imagination. Looking back becomes a moment of reflection, revealing the hidden and poetic layers within the studio’s work.
The exhibition examines the uncertain future of five major 20th-century buildings in the Hauts-de-Seine, threatened by decay, demolition, or damaging alterations.
The European Architectural Photography Prize architekturbild has been awarded every two years since 1995. Since 2003, the award has been bestowed by architekturbild e.v., since 2008 in cooperation with DAM, and since 2016 with a third partner, the Bundesstiftung Baukultur. The competition focuses on the built environment and its photographic and artistic exploration, and always has a predefined motto. The theme for 2019 is “Joyful Architecture”. Normally, architecture is characterized by terms such as utility, urban contextualization, economic feasibility, sustainability, and aesthetics. But we rarely think of architecture as playful and fun. This year’s prize invited photographers to show their views of joyful architecture — open to many interpretations.
The WAAO, Centre of Architecture and Urbanism, opens the first retrospective of Julien Lanoo on Tuesday, June 5. Titled IN[COGNITUS], the exhibition moves beyond the traditional architectural display to explore the relationship between humans, the built environment, and its cultural complexity. Bringing together more than 50 works, IN[COGNITUS] presents both iconic buildings and lesser-known architectural projects from around the world, paying homage to the “incognito” figures within an as-yet unwritten story of contemporary architecture. The exhibition has been selected as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 by the French Ministry of Culture (Ministère de la Culture), contributing to a broader European initiative celebrating shared universal values across individuals, communities, and societies.

**Project Vitra – Design, Architecture, Communications (1950–2017)** Opening on 24 March 2017 at the Vitra Campus Fire Station, **Project Vitra** presented the cultural and commercial history of the Swiss furniture manufacturer. Expanded from the 2014 exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the show traced Vitra’s evolution through design, architecture, and communication. Set within the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, the exhibition reflected on a site shaped by landmark works by Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Jean Prouvé, Herzog & de Meuron, and others.
For the 15th edition of the architecture Biennale: REPORTING FROM THE FRONT, Alejandro Aravena, curator of the exhibition and winner of the Pritzker price 2016, proposes to tackle architecture as a driven element to answer the social, ecological and economic challenges of the XXIst century. LAN has been selected to witness the situation in France and illustrate one of the ways to fight for a « better living».
