Location: Busua, Ghana
Surf Ghana Collective in Busua, Ghana, designed by Accra-based architects Glenn DeRoché and Juergen Strohmayer, is a community-oriented sports and culture space shaped by its coastal setting. The architecture responds to the rhythms of Busua: open, informal, and closely connected to the landscape, creating a place that feels both grounded in its environment and alive with movement. Founded by Sandy Alibo, Surf Ghana uses sport as a tool for youth empowerment, building ecosystems around surfing, skateboarding, creativity, and community. In Busua, this mission is translated into architecture through flexible gathering spaces, simple material gestures, and an atmosphere that encourages exchange, play, and learning. More than a surf destination, the project becomes a social platform: a place where design supports access, belonging, and opportunity, while reflecting the energy of Ghana’s emerging surf culture.
