Park am Gleisdreieck

Park am Gleisdreieck by Atelier Loidl transforms a former railway junction between Kreuzberg and Schöneberg into one of Berlin’s major inner-city parks. Once an inaccessible industrial terrain, the site has been reconnected to the surrounding neighbourhoods through paths, open lawns, sports areas, playgrounds, and quieter zones of vegetation.
The character of the park remains closely tied to its railway past. Tracks, fragments of infrastructure, rough edges, and spontaneous vegetation have been preserved and worked into the design rather than erased. Large open spaces sit beside wilder areas, allowing the park to shift between movement and stillness, recreation and observation.
Extending toward the borders of Tempelhof, the park offers a rare kind of urban openness. It is designed enough to be used, but loose enough to feel unfinished — a public landscape where the city’s industrial traces remain visible in everyday life.
