Umbrella House

At the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, Kazuo Shinohara’s Umbrella House appears with a quiet, almost modest presence. Originally built in Tokyo, the house brings together a timber structure, a central column, and a roof that opens like a delicate umbrella. Set among the campus’s architectural landmarks, it is read here through light, proportion, and restraint rather than monumentality. The project becomes a study in intimacy and balance, where shelter and simplicity shape both the architecture and its photographic presence.
