Amdavad ni Gufa

Client: Vitra
Location: Weil am Rhein, Germany
Installed on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, Khudi Bari by Marina Tabassum presents a precise response to climate vulnerability. Originally developed in Bangladesh, where flooding increasingly displaces communities, the small house is a low-cost, lightweight structure designed to be assembled, dismantled, transported, and rebuilt by its residents.
Built by hand and without electricity or mechanical equipment, Khudi Bari shows how modest materials and simple techniques can support flexibility, dignity, and resilience. In the setting of the Vitra Campus, it reads both as a prototype and as a quiet but pointed reminder that architecture can respond to urgent living conditions with clarity and care.
