Cité du Vin

Set on the banks of the Garonne in Bordeaux’s Bassins à Flot district, Cité du Vin by XTU Architects is a cultural centre dedicated to wine and the many ways it shapes history, geography, trade, and daily life. Its programme brings together exhibitions, events, educational spaces, restaurants, and panoramic views over the city.

The building is defined by a fluid volume of glass and golden aluminium panels. Its curves suggest the movement of wine in a glass, the form of a vine stock, and the flow of the nearby river. As light changes across the façade, the museum shifts between reflection and opacity, anchoring the waterfront with a strong but measured presence.

Cité du Vin gives Bordeaux a contemporary landmark closely tied to the culture and landscape of its region.
