Location: Caen, France
Bibliothèque Alexis de Tocqueville in Caen was conceived as a civic library and meeting place for the Caen la Mer metropolitan area. OMA’s cross-shaped plan gathers the building’s main collections around a central reading room, while generous glazed façades connect the interior to the historic city, the railway station, nearby residential districts and the Bassin Saint-Pierre. The project combines reading, research, exhibitions and meetings within a clear public structure shaped by light, circulation and openness.
