Silvio d’Ascia Architecture’s extension of the Fondation Maeght expands the historic museum with a discreet intervention beneath the existing site. Inaugurated for the foundation’s sixtieth anniversary, the project adds new exhibition spaces while respecting Josep Lluís Sert’s original architecture. Inserted into the stone base below the courtyards, the new galleries remain almost invisible from the outside. Large openings frame the surrounding pine forest and bring natural light underground, creating calm, flexible spaces for exhibitions, performances, and encounters between art, architecture, and landscape.
