Amdavad ni Gufa

Amdavad ni Gufa is an underground art gallery in Ahmedabad where architecture and imagination merge beneath the earth. Designed by celebrated architect B.V. Doshi in collaboration with artist M.F. Husain, the space feels less like a conventional gallery and more like a living sculpture.

Its flowing curves, low domes, mosaic surfaces and cave-like interiors create an atmosphere that is both intimate and surreal. Light filters in unexpectedly, walls seem to bend and breathe, and Husain’s bold artistic presence becomes part of the architecture itself. Hidden below the surface, Amdavad ni Gufa invites visitors to slow down, wander and experience art as a space to inhabit rather than simply observe.
