Maison Démontable 4x4

The Maison Démontable 4x4 is an original prefabricated house designed by Jean Prouvé as part of his research into lightweight, demountable and industrialised forms of houses.
Vitra shows the house as an important work within its wider architectural collection. Set beside the path around the Water Garden by Bas Smets, it enters into a quiet dialogue with the surrounding landscape and the other buildings of the campus. The photographs show the Maison Démontable 4x4 not merely as a historical object, but as a work that remains active, relevant and deeply respected. As both a prototype and a built manifesto, it expresses Jean Prouvé’s enduring ambition to unite construction, mobility and modern domestic life.
