Location: Accra, Ghana
One Airport Square by Mario Cucinella Architects is a mixed-use office building located in Accra’s Airport Area, close to Kotoka International Airport. The project combines a nine-storey office block with commercial spaces at ground level, organized around a public plaza designed as a place for meeting, events, exhibitions, and everyday urban life.
Its expressive concrete structure gives the building a strong identity within the surrounding cityscape. Inspired by traditional local art and the texture of palm tree bark, the façade is also closely connected to environmental performance. Deep overhangs, shaded terraces, narrow floor plates, and an atrium help reduce solar gain, support natural ventilation, and limit the need for active cooling.
Rather than simply importing a high-tech office model, One Airport Square adapts it to Accra’s climate and culture. It becomes both a contemporary workplace and a civic gesture — a building where structure, sustainability, and public life are woven together.
