China Resources Tower, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, is a 400-meter office tower located in Shenzhen’s Houhai District. Conceived as the headquarters for China Resources, the tower anchors a larger mixed-use development that connects offices, retail, residential areas, public space, the city’s greenbelt, and the waterfront.
KPF describes the tower as a structure defined by geometric purity and cultural symbolism. Its tapered form is inspired by the bamboo shoot, a reference to growth, resilience, and renewal. This idea is expressed through an innovative tube-and-diagrid structure, giving the building both stability and a distinctive identity on the Shenzhen skyline.
The images show the tower during construction, at a moment when its final silhouette was still emerging. Wrapped in scaffolding and exposed structure, the building appears less like a finished object than a vertical landscape in formation — a bamboo shoot still pushing upward, gathering strength before becoming part of the city’s horizon.
