Once the city center of Shenzhen, Nantou has become today a heterogeneous symbiosis of a historic town and a contemporary urban village. With Nantou being a focal point at the 2017 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture, new light has been shed on the importance of its historical layers, and on diversity in urban villages in China.
