Gwell Officetel
by Julien De Smedt Architects

Location: Hangzhou, China
Hangzhou Gateway by Julien De Smedt Architects is a 16-storey office building shaped by circulation, public space, and environmental performance. The volume occupies the full site and is cut by two diagonal voids, giving the tower its distinctive H-shaped plan.
At ground level, one of these voids opens into a large arch that creates a covered public plaza and a passage between two historic public spaces on either side of the building. Rather than reading as a closed office block, the project acts as an urban connector, forming a threshold between different parts of the neighbourhood.
