Four Freedoms Park is a memorial landscape dedicated to President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the southern tip of Roosevelt Island. Designed by Louis I. Kahn shortly before his death and completed nearly four decades later, the park unfolds through a symmetrical allée of trees toward a monumental granite enclosure known as the Room. Its precise geometry, framed views and restrained materials create a contemplative civic space overlooking the East River and the United Nations.
