Manuel Herz is a German architect, researcher, and educator whose work connects architecture with questions of migration, identity, public life, and social transformation. Based between Basel and Cologne, his practice, Manuel Herz Architects, works across buildings, exhibitions, books, and urban research. His projects include the Babyn Yar Synagogue in Kyiv, the Tambacounda Hospital in Senegal, and the Swiss Pavilion for Expo 2025 in Osaka. Alongside his built work, Herz is known for important research publications such as African Modernism: The Architecture of Independence and From Camp to City, which explore how architecture reflects political, cultural, and social change.
