Rahbaran Hürzeler Architekten & BGM Architekten
Location: Engelberg, Switzerland
Set in the Alpine village of Engelberg, the school by Rahbaran Hürzeler Architekten and BGM Architekten stands close to the old Benedictine monastery, surrounded by trees, meadows, and mountain views. Its position gives the building a quiet presence, held between the historic weight of the monastery and the open landscape of central Switzerland.
The project responds carefully to its setting. Its volume, materials, and terraced outdoor spaces establish a dialogue with the existing school campus, the slope of the site, and the surrounding Alps. Classrooms and shared areas are organized to receive light and views, while the exterior spaces extend learning and play into the landscape.
