Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is the world’s first fully accessible art-storage facility, opening the normally hidden work of museum conservation and collection management to the public. Its bowl-shaped volume is wrapped in mirrored glass, reflecting Rotterdam’s Museumpark while reducing the building’s footprint at ground level. Inside, a dramatic atrium with intersecting staircases connects storage areas, exhibition spaces, conservation studios and display vitrines, while a rooftop forest and restaurant create a new public destination overlooking the city.
