Backyard Community Club

In Accra, where public recreational space is limited and green areas are increasingly scarce, Backyard Community Club by DeRoche Projects offers a compact model for shared civic life. Set in the dense neighbourhood of Osu, the project brings together a tennis court and a youth-oriented community space, where training, gathering, cultivation, and learning unfold side by side. Its precast rammed earth system is presented as Ghana’s first of its kind, pairing the clay court with spaces shaped by social exchange and environmental care. Built to international standards, the project remains closely tied to its urban context and to the everyday rhythms of the neighbourhood.
